Before we get to know you, here’s a little bit about us!
Karen Little RN RM
Hi I’m Karen! Foremost a midwife and mother of three, one of which was a born at home, but also a nurse and horticulturalist! My full-time work as a team lead community midwife also includes delivery suite and maternity triage. I am also qualified to undertake newborn medical assessments as well as being a tongue-tie and frenulectomy specialist. I have recently taken on the role of Homebirth lead for the MTW Trust. One of my greatest pleasures is seeing the friendships that grow and develop between expectant couples on our Birthplus courses.
Chrissie Wade RN RM BSc Hons
Antenatal and postnatal care, home deliveries and waterbirths have been my life’s work as a midwife, but presenting antenatal classes for BirthPlus is my real joy. Preparing couples for their first birth experience is a real privilege. As well as being a midwife of more than 35 years, I am also proudly a mother of three which helps me to bring practical insight from both sides of the business of birth! I have qualified in maternity aromatherapy and moxibustion and am Fedant Registered. Working closely with Karen we founded BirthPlus together and have been sharing our midwifery know-how for many years. We continue to explore ways to make our antenatal classes foremost evidence-based and informative, but always fun and sociable.
Emily Steward RN RM BSc Hons
Hi, I am Emily! I joined the Birthplus team to establish midwifery-led antenatal classes in the Sevenoaks area. I have 2 daughters, one born in hospital and one at home, so in this way I have first hand experience of what local maternity care has to offer as a mother and as a midwife. I have been a qualified nurse and midwife for more than 20 years. In that time I have built up a wealth of experience on the delivery suite and in the community, in antenatal and postnatal care, twin births, home births, vaginal births following caesarean section and have a specialist course in the care of the newborn. I have 10 years experience of teaching antenatal classes and enjoy sharing my midwifery knowledge with couples expecting a new baby.
Carrie Grayston RM BSc Hons
Hi, I’m Carrie, a mum of one and the newest member of the BirthPlus team. I am very excited to be running classes at Crowborough Birth Centre as I attended a BirthPlus course myself and know these classes are superb. I grew up in Crowborough and studied Midwifery in 2005 at Keele University. Before moving to Tunbridge Wells hospital in 2011, I worked as a hospital midwife in Guildford, Surrey. I have experience in the community and hospital, and have previously taught parent education for the NHS. I am currently working in the transitional care team specialising in looking after newborn babies who need a little extra input in their first few days of life. It really is a great pleasure supporting families at this special time. What I am so looking forward to with BirthPlus classes is not only providing the information couples want but at the same time making the experience fun and memorable. I know first-hand how easy it is to make new friends at the BirthPlus course.
